Long-term and short-term villa rentals in Uluwatu — Bali’s dramatic clifftop surf destination, fully managed by Azeroth PM.
Rent a Villa in Uluwatu, Bali
Uluwatu is where Bali gets vertical. The limestone cliffs drop sixty metres to the Indian Ocean, the ancient sea temple clings to the edge, and the villas here have arguably the most dramatic outlooks on the island. This is the southwestern tip of the Bukit peninsula — more remote than Seminyak or Canggu, more exclusive than almost anywhere else guests can base themselves in Bali. The surf breaks at Suluban and Padang Padang are world-renowned, the sunsets are the kind people fly across the world to see, and the seclusion is real. Renting a villa in Uluwatu means waking up to ocean views from a private pool, surfing the break before breakfast, and spending evenings at cliff-edge bars with the horizon entirely unobstructed. It is a fundamentally different experience from south Bali — and for the guests it suits, it is the best Bali has to offer.
Who Chooses Uluwatu?
Uluwatu draws a specific type of traveller — guests who want a private cliff-edge pool, legendary surf breaks within walking distance, and no obligation to interact with a crowd. The remoteness is the point, not the problem.
Surf TravellersThe breaks at Uluwatu, Suluban and Padang Padang are among the most consistent and celebrated in Southeast Asia. Surfers book Uluwatu villas specifically to be at the break before dawn — no driver, no delay, just the lineup.
Luxury Honeymoon CouplesCliff-edge infinity pools, private terraces with unbroken ocean horizon and an atmosphere of genuine seclusion make Uluwatu the most sought-after honeymoon address on the Bukit — and arguably in Bali.
Wellness RetreatersThe remoteness creates a genuine digital-detox environment. Several Uluwatu villas include in-house yoga salas, outdoor bathtubs and direct access to cliffside meditation points — a natural framework for a restorative week.
Spiritual SeekersPura Luhur Uluwatu is one of Bali’s six key directional sea temples. Guests based here reach the evening Kecak fire dance at sunset in minutes, and the temple ceremony schedule sets a different rhythm for the entire stay.
Uluwatu’s Beaches
Three surf and beach destinations define the Uluwatu coastline — each with its own approach, crowd and surf character, all within a short scooter ride of the area’s cliff-edge villas.
Suluban (Uluwatu Beach)The iconic cave beach accessed through a narrow limestone cleft. Home to warung cafés perched on rock shelves with direct views of the break. Magical at low tide when the cave mouth opens wide and the sea turns turquoise inside.
Padang PadangA sheltered white-sand cove between towering cliffs, famous for its barrelling left-hand break. More swimmer-friendly than Suluban when the swell drops — and one of Bali’s most visually striking beach settings.
Balangan BeachFifteen minutes northeast along the cliff road — a long white-sand beach with a gentler surf break and a string of cliffside warungs that catch the afternoon light. A worthwhile morning excursion from any Uluwatu villa base.
Dining, Nightlife & Lifestyle
Uluwatu’s dining scene has matured significantly without losing the raw warung culture that defines cliff life. From legendary sunset bars to surfer warungs, the area delivers a range of experiences across a compact coastal strip.
Single FinThe defining sunset institution of the Bukit. Open-air cliff bar with uninterrupted Indian Ocean views, a serious cocktail menu and a weekly DJ set that draws guests from across the peninsula. Arrive early and secure a spot at the railing.
Kelly’s WarungThe unpretentious local benchmark. Nasi goreng, mie goreng and cold Bintang served fast and cheap. Popular with the surf crowd from morning to night — the kind of warung guests return to every day of their stay.
Mick’s PlaceMulti-level cliff restaurant with poolside dining, fresh daily seafood and a position close enough to the Uluwatu break to watch surfers work the lineup while you eat. Reliable for a long lunch.
Cashew TreeA healthy café in nearby Pecatu with a good smoothie bowl menu, strong WiFi and a relaxed working atmosphere. Pre-surf breakfast sorted — rare to find reliable café WiFi this far out on the Bukit.
Nalu BowlsAçaí bowls, cold-press juices and superfood options for the wellness and surf demographic. Consistently good. Pre-dawn surf sessions start here for a significant portion of Uluwatu’s villa guests.
Sundays Beach ClubA short drive east toward Ungasan — the most polished beach club experience on the Bukit. Private sand, signature cocktails, water sports and sun loungers on a sheltered white-sand bay.
Neighbourhoods Within Uluwatu
Uluwatu is not a single address but a cluster of cliff-edge sub-zones, each with its own level of access, seclusion and proximity to the surf breaks that define the area’s identity.
PecatuThe main residential hub around the GWK Cultural Park area. The most services, the most connectivity and the easiest access to the broader Bukit road network. Well suited to guests who want Uluwatu access without the most extreme cliff-edge isolation.
Temple PrecinctThe immediate area surrounding Pura Luhur Uluwatu. Limited villa supply, maximum atmosphere — especially in the golden hour before and after sunset when the temple silhouette against the orange sky is extraordinary.
Suluban RidgeThe high-ground area directly above the cave beach. Villas here have direct access to the break and unbroken ocean views from every terrace. The most in-demand sub-address for serious surf guests booking Uluwatu.
Bingin CliffA vertical lane of tiered villas and warungs descending to one of Bali’s most photogenic left-hand breaks. Community feel alongside genuine seclusion — popular with guests who want Uluwatu atmosphere with a social edge.
Getting Around
Uluwatu is the most remote of Bali’s main villa destinations — a trade-off that guests who choose it make deliberately. Within the area, a scooter is non-negotiable; beyond it, a private driver covers all the key connections.
Ngurah Rai Airport18–25 km north — 30 to 45 minutes by private driver. One of the shorter airport connections in Bali, despite the remote feel of Uluwatu itself. Most villa guests arrange the transfer through Azeroth PM.
ScooterNon-negotiable. The cliff roads are narrow and most services require one. Locals navigate the terrain in 5–10 minutes; guests unfamiliar with Bukit roads should allow extra time on cliff-edge tracks.
Private DriverFor day trips to Jimbaran seafood, Seminyak or central Bali, a dedicated driver arranged via your villa manager is the most comfortable option — and practical for guests not confident on the cliff-edge scooter roads.
Gojek & GrabCoverage is improving but still patchy on the western Bukit cliffs. More reliable around Pecatu and the GWK area than at the remote cliff-edge addresses. Useful for airport runs and Jimbaran trips.
